  1. Overview / Our Purpose

Welcome to Pledge to Reg. Pledge to Reg is a voter education tool whose stated purpose is to facilitate voting in U.S. elections by registered voters residing outside of the U.S. By collecting a limited amount of data from individuals who choose to use this tool, Pledge to Reg seeks to meet this purpose by contacting its users by email, phone, and/or text message to (1) remind them to vote in the 2020 election, and (2) to answer their questions about how to obtain and properly file an absentee ballot.

Pledge to Reg is managed by Democrats Abroad France (“DAF”). DAF is the French country chapter of Democrats Abroad, the official Democratic Party organization for Americans living outside the U.S. DAF is committed to protecting the privacy of Pledge to Reg users. DAF respects European Union Data Protection law (General Data Protection Regulation or “GDPR”) as well as French law regarding data protection (la Loi française relative à l’informatique et aux libertés, loi du 6 janvier 1978).

  1. Personal data we collect & how we collect that data

Pledge to Reg collects only the personal data that you provide directly to us. The personal data that you provide directly to Pledge to Reg through our site is apparent from the site homepage. When you choose to sign up for Pledge to Reg, we collect your full name, email address, phone number (optional?), your country of residence, and your U.S. state of voter registration.

Our website does not use cookies. Our website does not collect browser and device data such as your IP address, device type, operating system, usage data or any other private web browsing information.

  1. How we use that data

As indicated in the opt-in page, our use of your data will be limited to the following:

  • When you choose to Pledge to Reg, your data will be added to our database as someone who has promised to vote in the 2020 election.

  • Based on your chosen method of communication (email, phone, or text message), our volunteers will contact you up to three times during the course of the 2020 election year cycle in order to confirm that you have fulfilled your commitment to vote.

  • You may choose to be contacted via all three modes of communication. If you do, Pledge to Reg may contact you up to three times on each method of communication. (verify)

  • We do not add your name or email address to any recurring email list.

Who has access to my data?

  • All volunteers who have access to your data are also U.S. citizens living overseas.

  • All volunteers will be required to review and sign the attached confidentiality agreement in which they agree to maintain the privacy of the data you have shared with us.

Opt-out by email members:

If you no longer want to participate in Pledge to Reg and you no longer want to receive emails, text messages, or phone calls from us, you may opt out by clicking the unsubscribe link included in our emails or the link above. We will take at most xxxx amount of time to comply with your request and remove you from our database. If you have requested an opt-out and believe that Pledge to Reg has not removed you from the database, please contact us via the contact section below.

Note: If you do not want to opt-out but want to know what data we have in our database for you, you may review, correct, or update the personal data that you have previously disclosed to us by contacting us.

Your personal data is only accessible to a limited number of DAF volunteers who will access your data to contact you and remind you to vote. All personal data will be kept in U.S. servers (Heroku servers located in Arlington, VA) where our website is hosted. The database is encrypted and highly secure.

We will hold your data through the 2020 election unless you opt-out of Pledge to Reg (by clicking here (link)). If you do not opt-out, Pledge to Reg may hold your data until the official winners of the 2020 election are announced.

  1. Data sharing with third parties

Pledge to Reg does not share your personal data with third parties.

Pledge to Reg does not sell or rent your personal data to marketers or any other unaffiliated third parties.
